Loud Unicorn LLC ("we," "us," "our") built HouseRules Board. This policy explains what data HouseRules Board collects, why, and how it is handled.
1. What Data We Collect and Why
Household Data (stored in Apple CloudKit, shared across household members):
- Household name and member profiles — name and emoji chosen by each member, stored in CloudKit
- House rules — text content of rules authored by household members, stored in CloudKit
- Chore assignments — chore name, assigned member, deadline, point value, and completion status, stored in CloudKit
- Chore completions — who completed which chore and when, stored in CloudKit
- Points and rewards — member point totals and reward redemptions, stored in CloudKit
Local Device Data:
- App preferences and settings — stored locally via UserDefaults
- Subscription status — whether you have an active Premium subscription, verified locally via Apple StoreKit 2
Apple Reminders Integration (optional):
- If you enable Reminders sync, HouseRules Board creates reminder items in your Apple Reminders app for assigned chores. This data is handled by Apple's Reminders framework locally on your device. We do not have access to your broader Reminders data — only the reminders we create.
2. What We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect email addresses, phone numbers, or government-issued identifiers
- We do not use analytics SDKs (no Firebase, Amplitude, Mixpanel, or third-party tracking)
- We do not use crash reporting services
- We do not access contacts, location, camera, microphone, or photos
- We do not sell or share data with advertisers or data brokers
- We do not operate our own backend servers — all sync goes through Apple CloudKit
3. CloudKit — Shared Household Data
Household data syncs via Apple CloudKit. This means:
- All members added to the household can view shared rules, chore assignments, completions, and member profiles
- Data is governed by Apple's own privacy practices and retention policies (apple.com/privacy)
- We do not have a separate copy of your household data on our servers
Do not include sensitive personal information (financial data, SSNs, legal agreements, passwords) in house rules, chore names, or notes. HouseRules Board is a coordination tool, not a secure document storage system.
4. Third-Party Services
- Apple CloudKit — household data sync across members' devices. Apple's privacy policy applies: apple.com/privacy
- Apple StoreKit 2 — subscription processing for Premium ($2.99/month). Apple handles all payment data. We receive only anonymized transaction receipts.
- Apple Reminders (EventKit) — optional chore reminder creation. Reminders are created locally on your device. We do not access your full Reminders library.
- Apple UserNotifications — local notifications for chore deadlines if enabled. No data leaves your device.
We do not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking libraries.
5. Children's Data
HouseRules Board is not directed at children under 13. Member profiles may include child household members (e.g., children in a family home), but the app operator (the adult managing the household) is responsible for obtaining appropriate consent. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from anyone under 13. Contact maxthemoltbot@gmail.com if you have concerns.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
- Local data: deleted when you uninstall the app
- CloudKit household data: persists until household members delete it within the app, or until Apple's CloudKit retention policies apply
- Subscription records: managed by Apple
To remove household data: delete house rules, chores, and members within the app before uninstalling. As a household member, you can only delete data you have permission to manage — household creators have broader delete access.
7. Security
Local data is protected by iOS sandboxing. CloudKit data is protected by Apple's infrastructure. Household access is controlled by CloudKit sharing — only members explicitly added to the household can access its data.
8. Changes to This Policy
Material changes will be communicated via in-app notice. Continued use constitutes acceptance.

GDPR — Your Rights (EU/EEA Users)

Loud Unicorn LLC is the data controller for personal data processed through HouseRules Board.

2. Legal Basis for Processing
- Contractual necessity (Art. 6(1)(b)): Household sync via CloudKit is required to provide the core service — shared house rules and chore coordination.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): Reminders integration and optional features require explicit user action.
3. Your Rights Under GDPR
Right of Access (Art. 15): Household data is visible in the app. Contact maxthemoltbot@gmail.com for any records.
Right to Rectification (Art. 16): Edit member profiles, house rules, and chore information directly in the app.
Right to Erasure (Art. 17): Delete household content within the app. Uninstall to remove local data.
Right to Restriction (Art. 18): Disable Reminders sync in app settings. Remove yourself from the household to stop CloudKit sync.

Right to Object (Art. 21): Uninstall the app or remove yourself from the household to stop processing.
4. How to Exercise Your Rights

6. International Data Transfers
Household data is stored in Apple CloudKit under Apple's GDPR commitments and Standard Contractual Clauses. We do not transfer data to our own servers outside the EU/EEA.

CCPA/CPRA — Your Rights (California Residents)

1. Categories of Personal Information We Collect
- Device identifiers (for StoreKit transaction verification — handled by Apple)
- Household content (member names/emoji, house rules, chore data) — stored in Apple CloudKit
- App preferences — stored locally on your device
We do NOT collect: email, phone number, financial data, location, biometric data, or sensitive personal information as defined by CPRA.
2. Do We Sell or Share Personal Information?
No. We do not sell or share personal information with third parties for advertising.
3. Your CCPA/CPRA Rights
Right to Know: Household data is visible in the app. We do not maintain server-side user profiles.
Right to Delete: Delete household content in the app or uninstall to remove local data. Email maxthemoltbot@gmail.com for any records.
Right to Correct: Edit member profiles and household data directly in the app.
Right to Opt-Out of Sale/Sharing: We do not sell or share — no action required.
