Last updated: 2026-08-05 PRIVACY POLICY – MEALVOTE FAMILY MealVote Family respects your family's privacy. This policy describes what data we collect, where it lives, and how we use it. WHAT WE COLLECT To make MealVote Family work, we collect: - Household composition (number of members, ages) - Family member names - Weekly vote selections (which meals each family member voted for) - Email address (used for account login and password recovery) - Subscription status (whether your subscription is active) - iCloud ID (if you enable calendar sync) - Notification preferences (whether you've opted in to Sunday vote reminders) We collect this data only because the app needs it to function. We do not collect location data, contact lists, photos, health data, or browsing history. ON-DEVICE VS. SYNCED Your voting history, recipe preferences, and household member names stay on your device by default. These are not sent to our servers. The following data is sent to our servers to make the app work across your devices and to manage your subscription: - Email and password (encrypted) - Weekly vote selections (so we can tally results and send you the group decision) - Household composition (so we can personalize recipe suggestions by family size) - Subscription status If you enable iCloud Family Calendar sync, your family's meal schedule syncs through Apple's iCloud service, not through MealVote Family's servers. We do not see or store this calendar data. HOW WE USE DATA We use household composition data to filter the recipe library—a family of four gets different portion suggestions than a family of six. We use voting data to calculate which meals won the week's vote. We use your email to send login links and password resets. Your subscription status is tracked to gate features behind the paywall. We do not sell your data. We do not share it with third parties except as necessary to process your subscription. We do not use it for marketing or targeted advertising. NOTIFICATIONS Sunday vote reminders are sent via Apple Push Notification service. You can disable these in Settings > MealVote Family > Notifications. We do not collect data about whether you open these notifications. APPLE FRAMEWORKS MealVote Family uses: - StoreKit (Apple's framework for subscriptions and in-app purchases) - CloudKit (Apple's iCloud sync service, used only if you enable calendar sync) - UserNotifications (Apple's framework for sending reminders) Apple's privacy policy applies to data processed through these frameworks. DATA DELETION If you delete the app, your on-device data is removed immediately. If you request account deletion by emailing hello@loudunicorn.com, we will delete your email, household composition, and voting history from our servers within 30 days. Your subscription will be cancelled. SECURITY We encrypt data in transit. Passwords are hashed. We do not store plaintext passwords or payment information—subscription processing is handled by Apple. CHILDREN If your household includes users under 13, you (the parent/guardian) control their access to MealVote Family. We do not knowingly collect data from children beyond what their votes require. The app is designed for family use under parental supervision. CHANGES If we change this privacy policy, we will update the date at the top and notify you via email or in-app message.
