Last updated: 2026-08-05 SPEED SEGMENTS PRIVACY POLICY Speed Segments is a driving app that tracks your vehicle speed to color map segments and compete on leaderboards. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, where it is processed, and how it is used. DATA WE COLLECT Location Data. Speed Segments uses GPS to record your location and speed while you drive. This location data is processed on your device to detect driving trips, calculate speed in segment areas, and determine which map segments you've completed. We do not store raw location traces on our servers. If you drive a segment and earn a position on a leaderboard, we store only your final speed quality score for that segment (derived from Core Motion acceleration smoothness), your username, and the segment ID—never your route or GPS coordinates. Core Motion Data. The app uses your phone's accelerometer and gyroscope to score the quality of your drives. This quality score measures ride smoothness and is calculated entirely on your device. Only the final quality score is sent to our servers for leaderboard ranking; we do not upload raw motion data. Trip Metadata. We store on your device the summary of each completed drive: date, segment IDs colored, and the quality metrics achieved. For Pro subscribers, this historical drive data is synced to our servers to enable the historical drives feature. Leaderboard and Profile Data. Your username, total city coverage percentage, quality-ranked leaderboard positions, and shared map cards are synced to our servers. Leaderboards rank only on quality score; we do not rank on speed or time. Custom Segments (Pro). If you create custom segments as a Pro subscriber, the segment geometry and your performance on those segments are synced to our servers. Export Data (Pro). When you export your drive history or map, the export is generated on our servers from your synced data and is deleted after download. In-App Purchase Data. We do not handle payment processing; Apple handles all purchases. We receive only confirmation that you have an active Pro subscription to unlock premium features. DATA RETENTION AND DELETION Segment completion and personal stats are retained indefinitely in your account. Historical drive records for Pro subscribers are retained for as long as your Pro subscription is active; if you cancel Pro, historical drives remain in your account but you cannot view them until you re-subscribe. You may delete your account at any time through the app settings, which will delete all your data from our servers. On-device data (location history, motion data, drive summaries) is stored only on your phone and can be cleared by reinstalling the app or clearing the app's data through iOS Settings. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES Speed Segments uses standard Apple frameworks (Core Location, Core Motion, StoreKit) to function. We do not use third-party analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or crash reporting services. SECURITY All data transmitted between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit. We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties. Your data is used only to power Speed Segments features (segment coloring, leaderboards, historical drive access) and improve the app. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY We may update this policy occasionally.
